GRACE, IDAHO - - CHARLOTTE L. PETERSON
GRACE- In loving memory of Charlotte Vienna Lasley Peterson, born Sept. 11, 1911, in American Falls, Idaho, the daughter of Heber William and Cassie Muir Lasley. A neighbor, Lila Nelson, was the midwife present at her birth. She passed away in Soda Springs on Oct. 30, 2009.
She started school in Chesterfield at eight years old and attended four schools, Chesterfield, Wardborough, Thatcher and Logan for elementary school. After 8th grade, her family moved to Grace, Idaho. Her dad fed cattle for the Beckwith and Quinn Cattle Co. Later, her father bought a garage and formed the Lasley and Olson car dealership which became Lasley and Stocker.
She met her husband, Don Peterson, as a freshman in high school. They were married on Jan. 25, 1930, in Paris, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. Their marriage and close relationship continued for 68 years until Don's passing in 1998. They both enjoyed farming and being involved in their church and community.
Charlotte was a very strong person with an intense loyalty and devotion to her family and love for her friends and community. This love manifested itself in many forms of service to others. She worked in Mutual and served as president of the Mutual and Primary. She was a charter member of the Grace Literary Club that came up with the idea of starting a library in Grace.
She is survived by a son, Mark (Leona) Peterson of Grace; a daughter, Shannon (Fred) McCarthy of Seattle, Washington; by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and by a son-in-law, Eddie Skinner of Soda Springs, Idaho. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don, a daughter, Meredith Skinner, by an infant daughter and son, Joan Peterson and William Peterson, a great grandson, Wyatt Dean DeKay, two infant brothers, a sister, Ruth (Harold) Varley, and by a brother, Angus (Althea) Lasley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2009, at 12 Noon in the Grace Idaho Stake Center Brother Nick Johnson conducting. Friends may call Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center.
