Weston - Charles William "Chub" Buttars was born January 12, 1925 in Logan, Utah to Benjamin Charles and Lara Susannah Griffiths Buttars. He passed away peacefully on June 2, 2009 at the age of 84 at the Heritage Home in Preston, Idaho surrounded by his immediate family.

He received the first eight years of his education in a one-room school in Cedarville, Idaho. He graduated from the eighth grade on April 28, 1939. He then attended and graduated from Weston High School on May 7, 1943. He married his high school sweetheart, Donna Hulet on July 30, 1945 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple on September 19, 1951. They would have been married for 64 years on July 30 of this year. They spent the first six years of their married life in a two room log house north of Weston. In 1951 they built their home in Weston and have resided there for the last 58 years. He lived in Weston his entire life except the first two years.

He started farming when he graduated from high school. He enjoyed farming and was a very successful farmer. His farm, shed, machinery, and yard were always in excellent condition. It has always been said of him: "A place for everything and everything in its place." He was a High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He was a superintendant in the Sunday School, he was a Deacon Quorum advisor, Ward Financial Clerk, and Home Teacher. He was appointed by the United States Secretary of Agriculture as a committee member for the Idaho Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation (ASC) Committee. He served as the Farmers Home Administration committeeman and ASC community committeeman. He was the chairman of Weston Grain Cooperative for 20 years, and was a member of the Idaho Wheat Growers Association and the National Farmers Union. Chub and Donna enjoyed spending time with their family and friends at their cabin in Elkhorn, Montana and their home in St. George, Utah. He also enjoyed camping, hunting, golfing, and picnicking with friends and family.

He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Weston; his five children Sonya (Stephen) Ames, Centerville, UT; Craig (Kay) Buttars, Malad, ID; Berk (Carlie) Buttars, Idaho Falls, ID; Rex (Debi) Buttars, Idaho Falls, ID; and Dawn Todd, of Idaho Falls, ID; 20 grandchildren, and 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters Stewart (Lera) Buttars, of Preston, ID; Elma (Sanford) Walker, of Farmington, UT; Valeen (Kirk) Bitter, of Bountiful, UT; LaReen (James) Carley, of Ogden, UT; and Clint (Cheryl) Buttars, of Weston. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters Lora Hayes, and Faye Buttars, and one brother Morgan Buttars.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Weston 1st Ward LDS Chapel with Bishop Blaine Buttars conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at the Weston Church and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. also at the church. Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery.
