Carole Virginia Hawkes Olsen

Carole Virginia Hawkes Olsen passed away on December 22, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born February 17, 1933, to Stanton Meikle Hawkes and Virginia Eva Hyde Hawkes. She was the oldest of four children and raised in Franklin, Idaho.

Mom was academically top notch in High School, earning her many academic awards. She also kept us up many nights playing classical music on the piano.

Her true love was riding horses where she led many parades and grand entries into the Famous Preston Night Rodeo. Her love of reading landed her teaching Gospel Doctrine classes for about 30 years. She also had many ward and stake callings in mutual and Relief Society.

Her patriotism and strong desire for right and wrong gave her the title of “Political Junkie”. Her research on the subject could have landed her a job in the FBI. She was on the County Fair Board and Franklin County Republican Central Community. Her hobbies included sewing pieced quilts, yard work, and reading.

She grew up in Franklin along with my dad, Monte Olsen, but became acquainted with him by way of a school play. They married on January 19, 1951, in the Logan Temple. Seventy-one years of adventures together include traveling with Monte as he trained for the Army Intelligence Corp, owning and running a grocery store in Franklin, and raising three children. When it came to family, they were involved deeply and were on the road constantly to support all the many, many activities and sports that their children, grandchildren, and even great grandchildren were involved in.

Mom is survived by her daughter Danielle (McKay) Dunn, son Tracy (Cherise) Olsen, brother Brett (Phoebe Kay) Hawkes, sister Tamera (Jessie) Johnson, 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Monte, son Jeff Olsen, grandson Tyler Olsen, brother Gene Hawkes, and all of her in-laws.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 28, 2024, at 12:00 pm at the Franklin Idaho Stake Center, 106 East Main, Franklin, Idaho 83237. A viewing will be held prior to the funeral Saturday from 10:30-11:30 am at the church. Interment will be in the Franklin Idaho Cemetery.
