Bruce Lyle Petersen

Bruce Lyle Petersen passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon November 30, 2017. He was born in Rigby, Idaho on July 19th 1949. He was the only boy of four children and was raised by two loving parents Lyle Orval and Grace Palmer Peterson. In his younger years he could often be found at the football field or the baseball diamond. He was highly involved in sports at Preston High School and in the community leagues. He graduated from Preston High School in 1967 and later went on to honorably serve a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Western Canadian Mission. He attended Utah State University where he studied Political Science before he returned home to help run the family business, Petersen Drapery and Home Furnishings. His first time love was of sports and golfing, which led him to serve on the board of directors and managing the Preston Golf Course for many years. He loved his community and loved his years he served on the Preston City Council from 1996 to 2004. He often spoke of the beloved memories of serving in church callings such as a financial clerk, in the Elders Quorum and as a Sunday School Teacher, but his most cherished calling was serving in the High Council for the Preston North Stake. The rapport he developed with fellow church members and community patrons will be forever appreciated.

Bruce married his sweetheart Barbara Petersen on June 25, 1993. He welcomed four children upon marrying the love of his life and added the youngest child shortly after. He loved his bachelor days, but his greatest joy was creating memories with his family. Six of the most important people in his life called him “grandpa” and he cherished the time he was able to spend with each of them. He passed on a love of all things sports, from his loyalty to the Utah State Aggies, Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Dodgers, to the wisdom of the games. His knowledge and love for politics was shared with those around him and his wisdom will be passed on for years to come.

Bruce is survived by his wife Barbara, son Jeff (Natalie) of Riverside, Utah; son, Cody (Brittney) of Glendale, AZ; daughter Samantha (Travis) Carter of Layton, Utah; daughter Emily (Andrew) Brown of Logan, Utah; son Zachary and grandchildren Nick, Lillie, Ryker, Lucie, Harper and Abigail. Sister Janet (Bob) Johnson of Preston; sister Jolynn (Bob) Jex of Tremonton, Utah and sister Ranae (Bil)l McKee of Pocatello, Idaho. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins who have fond memories of him.

Bruce is preceded in death by his Father Lyle Petersen, Mother Grace Petersen, sister in law Patricia Beckstead Anderson and sister in law Holly Beckstead.

Bruce touched many lives throughout his lifetime and his spirit will be greatly missed. To our beloved husband, father, grandfather, coach, confidant and friend…we love you.
