Franklin, Idaho - - - Brenton Atkinson
Franklin - Brenton Atkinson, 73, passed away peacefully at his home in Franklin, Idaho surrounded by his family on September 12, 2011 after a two year battle with leukemia (AML). He was born on August 24, 1938 the youngest of nine children, born to Lester and Laura Nash Atkinson. He was born and raised in Franklin, Idaho. He graduated from Preston High School in 1956. After graduation, he fulfilled an honorable LDS mission to the Northern/Central States mission. He married Lois Johnson of Smithfield, Utah on July 6, 1962 in the Logan LDS Temple. They made their home in Franklin and were the parents of Zane Brenton (Jann Christensen) Atkinson, of Logan, UT; Shawn David (Tyona Gibson) Atkinson, of Franklin, ID; Forrest John Atkinson, of Franklin; and Amber (Todd) Williams, of Weston, ID.
He served the community in the National Guard, in the Franklin County Search and Rescue, and Franklin City Councilman for three terms, as Franklin City Mayor for two terms, and as chairman of the Franklin Pioneer Association. In addition to serving an LDS Mission, Brenton has served as a Sunday School Teacher, a councilor in the Elders Quorum Presidencey, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, High Councilman, Bishop, High Priest Group Instructor, and was currently serving as an officiator in the Logan LDS Temple. Brenton was co-owner with his son of Atkinson Upholstery in Logan, Utah. His many interests included racing snowmobiles, scuba diving, baseball, coaching little league, hunting, watching the Jazz basketball games, gardening, oil painting, and building a cabin for his family up Maple Creek Canyon.
He is survived by his wife and children, 19 grandchildren, Dakota (Kylie) Atkinson, Derik (Jessica) Atkison, Skyler, and Britten Atkinson, Asley, Parker (serving an LDS mission in Mexico), Brooklyn, Kate, and Nash Atkinson, Kai (Brady) Stokes, Devan, Jade, and Branson Atkinson and Abbey, Kinley and Bodie Williams. He also has one great grandchild Araeli, and one on the way. He is also survived by one sister, Juantel Nelson, of McCammon, ID. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four sisters, Martha Rosser, Gayle Lowe, Jean Atkinson, Joyce Eck, and three brothers Junior Atkinson, Max Atkinson, and Forrest Atkinson.
Brenton lived, loved, and endured to the end. We will cherish his legacy.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 17, 2011 at 12:00 noon in the Franklin Stake Center. A viewing will be held on Friday September 16 from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East in Preston, and Saturday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the stake center.
