Boyd Vernon Hammon, 88, passed away Nov 11, 2023 in Preston, ID, after a long battle with lung cancer. He was born on Jan 18, 1935, in Iona, ID, the son of Delbert Hammon and Anna Rockwood.
Boyd married Sally Simpson Aug 18, 1952, and later divorced. Together they had four daughters. Boyd then married the love of his life, Sandra (Sandy) Meyerhoffer Aug 5, 1989, in Coeur d’Alene, ID. Boyd proudly served 2 years in the US Army. Dad enjoyed planting and harvesting his huge vegetable garden and fruit trees. Any given day in the spring and summer, you could find him cultivating his pride and joy. He and Sandy canned or preserved everything they grew. When Dad wasn’t outside in his garden, you could find him playing cards and games with his family and friends. Pinochle was a favorite. Their early married years found them joining the other flocks of snow birds in Yuma, AZ and Ormond, FL. This big bear of a man was a teddy bear especially with his barn cats. For years, Dad and Sandy’s date nights were spent at Fort Hall Casino.
Boyd is survived by his sister Betty Henderson, children Betty Anderson (David) of West Valley City, UT, Cindy Nye (Troy) of New Harmony, UT, and Tamra David (Jeff) of Tooele, UT, Becky Larsen (Ross) of Cedar Hills, UT, Ross Kesler (Eleanor) of Magna, UT, and Vaughn Kesler (DeDe) of Wichita, KS, and many nephews, nieces, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
Boyd is preceded in death by his mother and father, siblings Ronald Hammon, Lynn Hammon, and brother-in-law Robert (Bob) Henderson, daughter Linda Tracy, grandsons Jacob Tracy, Richard Kesler, Christopher Martin, and Nathan Martin.
The Hammon family sincerely thanks the staff of Franklin County Medical Center (FCMC) Home Health and Hospice for their generous attention to Dad and Sandy. In particular, Muriel, Amanda, Megan, and Bailey provided Dad with loving care, respect, and honor in his last months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the FCMC Home Health and Hospice located at 122 North State St., Preston, ID 83263, 208.852.1937, FCMC.org.
