PRESTON, IDAHO - - BILL FISH
PRESTON- Billy Robert Fish, 84, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2009, at his home in Preston. He was born Aug. 17, 1925, in Hagerman, Idaho, the son of Earl and Alison Mary Weatherson Fish.
He joined the Navy when he was 17 and was one of twenty survivors when his ship was attacked in the South Pacific by the Germans during World War II. He was an active, lifelong member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and walked and carried the American Flag in many community parades especially during the Rodeo parades in Preston. He also participated in numerous military graveside rites for his deceased comrades.
He married Velma Therese Taylor on Dec. 3, 1947, in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in 1958 in the Logan Temple. In 1992, Velma passed away. He married Gwen Hulse Wheeler Cottle on May 16, 2000, in the Logan temple. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was a faithful home teacher and high priest at the time of his death. He also enjoyed studying the gospel and doing temple work.
He is survived by his wife, Gwen Fish of Preston; a son, Robert Scott (Alleen) Fish of Malad, Idaho; a daughter, Dixie (Max) Gregory of Lewiston, Utah; two step-sons, Brent (Nancy) Wheeler of American Falls, Idaho; Roland Wheeler of Boise, Idaho; two step-daughters, FayeLynn (T. Mark) Owen of Preston; Edna (Bill) Sparrow of Rexburg, Idaho; ten grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren, a sister, Florence Kenney of Jerome, Idaho, and two brothers, David Fish of Wendell, Idaho and Frank (Bobby) Fish of Jerome, Idaho. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma, and by two twin sisters, Jean Jennings and Maxine Myers.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 23, 2009, at noon in the Whitney Second Ward Chapel with Bishop Brandon Stephenson conducting. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 109 E. Oneida, Preston, and Monday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the church. Military rites and interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery.
