Betty Kay Fredrickson

Betty Kay Fredrickson, 83, passed away December 5, 2018 at her home in Weston, Idaho. Betty Kay was born May 6, 1935 in Preston, Idaho to Douglas Fordham Griffeth and Thelma Vilate Perkins Griffeth.

Betty Kay lived in Dayton, Idaho and the family later moved to Fairview, Idaho where she grew up. She had a wonderful childhood and loved being with her dad and grandpa Edward Griffeth. She was very fond of him. She learned at a young age how to thin and hoe sugar beets and help on the farm. She also learned how to crochet, knit, sew, and play the piano and she used these skills her entire life.

Betty Kay loved animals and in her whole life she was never without a dog for very long. She also loved cats and many other animals and the animals loved her as well. She also loved sports and loved playing softball in her youth. She was always very supportive of her children's sporting events and could always be seen watching and cheering her children and then grandchildren on at most every West Side game. She also loved watching sports on TV and always had a basketball or football game on. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Jazz and looked forward to watching them play.

Betty Kay attended Preston High School and graduated in 1953. She was a cheerleader and in the Marching Corps. She loved school and had many friends. After graduation she attended LDS Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah and worked for an insurance company and then an oil company while there. After a few years she moved back home to Fairview and worked as a secretary at Federal Land Bank in Preston. During this time, she met a tall, handsome man from Weston named Kenton Fredrickson. They were married October 19, 1956 in Preston, Idaho. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Utah Temple in 1958.

Soon after their marriage they moved to Weston, Idaho on the Fredrickson family ranch. Three daughters and a son were born to them and they were a happy family. Betty worked alongside Kenton to make Mile High Ranches grow and prosper. Not only was Betty one of the best farm hands on the ranch and could handle a loaded grain truck with ease, she was a great cook and could come in from the field and cook up the best lunch you've ever eaten for a crew of hired hands. She also was an excellent seamstress and sewed most of the clothes for herself and her three little girls.

When the children were all grown, she started work as a dispatcher in the Franklin County Sheriff's Department in March of 1988. In the 1990's after the retirement of Beverly Dunn she moved into the office and was the deputy behind the counter issuing driver’s licenses, taking care of civil papers and serving the public. She made many life-long friends while working there. She enjoyed working with Sheriff Don Beckstead and at that time deputy Dave Fryar and the other deputies, officers and dispatchers and was friends with the employees of the entire courthouse.

She retired from the Sheriff's Department in May of 2008 after serving the county for 20 years. She spent her retirement years on Mile High Ranch with Kenton and they enjoyed the love of their four children and spouses and their many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom they adored.

Betty Kay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served faithfully. She served as Young Women's President and was a camp director many times. She loved to crochet and tat and many people were the recipients of her beautiful afghans, slippers and scarves.

This wonderful woman will be greatly missed by many people and her wisdom, love and kindness will be remembered forever.

She is survived by her daughters Kaye (Jeff) Beckstead, Kathrin (Scott Schvaneveldt, deceased) Snarr, Sallie Ann (Billy) Dance; son Zayne Kenton (Terri) Fredrickson. A brother Glen (Roberta) Griffeth, a sister-in-law Betsey (Richard, deceased) Larson. 16 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Kenton, who passed away May 20, 2017, her parents, a sister Beth, son-in-law Scott Schvaneveldt, a grandson, Ricky Lee Fredrickson, and a brother-in-law Richard Larson.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at noon at the Weston 2nd Ward Chapel, 27 N. Center,Weston, Idaho with Bishop Steve Buttars conducting. Friends may call at Webb Funeral Home,1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho on Tuesday, December 11th from 6:00 - 8:00 pm and Wednesday from 10:30 am - 11:30 am at the church.  Interment will be in the Weston Cemetery.
