Bessie Glora Bennett Carpenter

Preston, Idaho - - - Bessie B. Carpenter

Preston - On the morning of May 4, 2012, our most kind and gentle Bessie passed away peacefully at the Legacy House of Logan surrounded by family. Bessie was born on April 10, 1925 at her home in Mapleton, Idaho to Esther Naomi Talbot and Henry LeRoy Bennett. She was the tenth of 11 children.

She grew up by the beautiful Cub River and attended Mapleton school and graduated from Franklin High School in May of 1943. A favorite pastime of the youth was the dances held every weekend. The most popular dance place was the Persiana in Preston where she met and fell in love with Charles Clements Carpenter. Charles and Bessie were married November 26, 1943 and later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple.

A short time after Charles and Bessie were married, Charles was drafted into the Army, and Bessie moved in with her parents. Upon Charles' return, Charles and Bessie bought a farm in Whitney where they stayed for many years. In 1961, they moved to Preston. Bessie was a stay-at-home mom to ten children. Bessie learned many skills being a mother to ten children. She was frugal and made use of what she had. Her quilts were done with even small stitches.
In 1979, Charles and Bessie moved to American Falls, which proved to be a blessing in their lives for they met many kind and wonderful people there. Charles and Bessie held positions in their ward, where Bessie was the librarian for quite a while. Upon Charles' retirement in 1989, they returned to Preston to be closer to their family, especially Brent who was living in Logan, Utah. Bessie was content to stay close to home. She was a quiet and gentle lady who wouldn't hurt a soul. She kept a tidy and quiet home until all the kids and grand kids showed up. All who entered her home felt welcomed and loved.

She is survived by her husband Charles of Preston, her eight daughters and two sons: Peggy Phillips of Preston, Linda Carpenter of Logan, Brent Carpenter of Logan, Carol Carpenter of Phoenix, AZ, Jana Lang (Ellis deceased) of Chubbock, ID, JoAnn Barthlome (Randy) of Preston, Laura Jeanne Smith (Hal) of Franklin, ID, Tamra Wilson of Herriman, UT, Tracy Carpenter (Diana) of Cub River, ID, LeeAnn Mellinger (Brian) of West Haven, UT; 28 grandchildren 43 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother, Eldon Bennett of Franklin, ID. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings: Unita, Vilda, Argell, Adra Seamons, Iris Olsen, Athaleen Tufts, June Rasmussen, Theron and Harold.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Preston 10th Ward LDS Chapel, 155 North 200 West in Preston with Bishop Doug Roper conducting.
