Mesquite, Nevada - - BERNICE M. EVANS
Mesquite - Bernice Marie Evans, (Buzz) 89, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 27, 2014 in Mesquite, Nevada. Bernice was born March 26, 1925, in Riverdale, Idaho to Wayne Smith and Ruthella Marie Pickren Evans. She has two sisters, Darlene E. Hendricks and Ruthella E. Cutler.
She graduated from Preston High School, received her BS from the University of Idaho and her Master's Degree from Washington State University.
Bernice spent her growing-up years happily playing sports, swimming in the Bear River and making life-long friends from High School.
After High School, she taught school first at Caldwell, Idaho, then moved on to Oregon to teach at Salem. She next taught at the University of Idaho, receiving a teaching fellowship at Washington State, where she completed her Master's Degree.
She qualified as a Counselor while teaching in Portland, where she moved to Milwaukie High School as Head of Girls PE and Heath. Bernice taught at Clackamas High, Rex Putman High as a Counselor. She was then the Dean of Women, Counselor and Liaison to the nursing program at Clackamas Community College. She was instrumental in starting a "Focus on Women" course at CCC, taught classes and had great skill with leadership and creative positions in many organizations.
Bernice retired in the late 1980's to help care for her mother. They took trips to Europe, Wales, Hawaii and many cities in the USA. They truly enjoyed their time together.
She was a very active participant in golf, playing Bridge, painting and maintaining her special friendships. After her roommate, Fran, died in 2008, she moved to Mesquite, Nevada, to be near her sister and niece, Darlene and Polly. She loved the desert, but missed the Oregon rain. She will be sorely missed!
Bernice is survived by her close family: Sisters: Darlene and Ruthella, Nephews: Brad Cutler (Neil), Richard Hendricks (Bonnie), Wayne Cutler, Eric Cutler (Lisa), Nieces: Vickrie Cutler White (Tim), Polly Hendricks, Jenifer Cutler Allard (Mike) and Grand Nephews and Nieces. She loved her family one and all.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, July 3rd at 11:00 am at the Preston Idaho Cemetery. All services under the direction of Webb Funeral Home in Preston, Idaho. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
