Belva Dean H. Thomas May 10, 1923 - March 9, 2012
Preston, Idaho- Belva Dean Hodges Thomas, 88, beloved mother, grandmother and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, March 9, 2012, at the Heritage Home in Preston following many years of congestive heart failure and other health problems.
She was born May 10, 1923 at the family home in Preston, Idaho, to George and Sarah Jane Spackman Hodges. She was the youngest of 9 children.
She attended school at the Central and Jefferson schools in Preston and graduated from L.D.S. Seminary and Preston High School. On October 16, 1941 she married Keith G. Thomas in the Logan L.D.S. Temple. They were married for 53 years.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where she served in many positions including Relief Society, MIA and Primary. During her life she was an example to her children and gave many hours of compassionate service in the 6th ward. She was a remarkable seamstress, cook, gardener and house keeper.
She is survived by her 6 children, Joyce (Robert) Williams, Weston, Idaho, Clair Thomas, Preston, Idaho, Brent (Nedra) Thomas, West Bountiful, Ut. Robert Thomas, West Bountiful, Ut, Gary Lynn (Sherrie) Thomas, Preston, Idaho and Lori (Andy) Christensen, West Valley City, Utah; 9 grandchildren, Shelley, Todd, Trissa, Matt, Brandi, Jennifer, Kelli, Wesley and Destiny; 5 step grandchildren, Jodi, Jeremy, Jennifer, Janice and Jason; 18 great-grandchildren, and 14 step great-grandchildren. She is also survived by Eda Olsen, a very special niece, who was raised as her sister. She is also survived by many special nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Keith and her oldest grandson, Robert (Robbie) Dean Williams, 4 brothers, Ed, Dick, Lloyd, and Cecil Hodges and 4 sisters, Gladys Coombs Mendenhall, Linda Holt, Edna Boman, and Valeta Long.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 12:00 noon, in the Preston South Stake Center, 55 E. 1st S. Preston, Idaho with Bishop Quinn Corbridge conducting. Friends may call Tuesday at the Webb Funeral Home's new facility, 1005 South 800 East Preston, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the stake center Wednesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and will be remembered for the good life and example she lived.
As a family we would like to thank the staff at Heritage Home in Preston for all of the kindness and loving care they gave to our Mother. Thanks also to special friends who visited and encouraged her often and to Access Hospice Care who made her last few months more comfortable.
