Barbara Jean Smith Wright 93 left this earth for her new adventure on Easter Sunday March 31, 2024, her loving son Darin by her side. Barbara was born May 14, 1930 in Wichita, Kansas to Clarence Emery Smith Sr. and Mildred Leontine Ray. She was the third child in the family of seven children with two older brothers, three younger brothers and a little sister.
Barbara attended school in Kansas, Eden Idaho and Salt Lake City Utah.
The Smith family left Kansas and settled in Eden, Idaho because of her mother’s health. Moving to Salt Lake City in 1947, they ended up living in Preston, Idaho.
At that time Barbara was living in California, and moved to Preston to live with them.
One night a friend invited her to go on a double date with a couple of guys.
Her friend’s date that night was William Wright who was called Billy.
Billy called Barbara later on and asked her for a date. Soon they were dating seriously. Barbara and Billy were married on March 9, 1952 at her parents’ home in Preston Idaho. Making their home in Franklin Idaho, Billy farmed with his father and raised prize cows. Four boys joined their family Douglas, David, Daniel and Darin.
Barbara was a hard worker that kept a spotless house. She loved plants, and had a green thumb. She was often seen with a crochet hook in her hand, making a new afghan. Barbara figured she had made about 300 afghans in her life, most of these were given to her family and friends. A convert to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barbara spent many years working on her Family History. On Friday afternoons she would be at the Preston Family History Center finding as much information as she could about her ancestors.
She loved to get to know people and was a friend to all.
She is survived by her sons Douglas, David, Daniel (Bea) and Darin Wright, her Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, a brother-in-Law Terry Wright (Darlene), cousins and many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband William Wright (Billy), Her parents and siblings.
