PRESTON, IDAHO - - ARTHUR "DUTCH" HALL
PRESTON- Arthur "Dutch" Ross Hall, 79, passed away on Sunday, May 23, 2010, peacefully at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston from an extended illness. Dutch, which he was commonly known as, was born Oct. 2, 1930, in Alma, New York, the son of Clyde Eli and Josephine Elizabeth Monroe Hall. He was the third child having three brothers, Clyde Eli Hall Jr., Carroll Egar Hall, Howard Hall, and one sister, Mary, who all preceded him in death.
As a child he was educated in New York. He followed one of his friends and other kids to school at age 4 and the teacher told his mother that he should stay and learn something because he was there every day anyway. He joined the Navy at age 17 and re-enlisted in the Marines in 1949. He was wounded and was a POW of the Korean Conflict for 14 months. While a prisoner, he was in camp with little reading material. The prisoners shared books, one of which was the Book of Mormon. He read this and on June 28, 1981, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. At the time of his death he was a High Priest.
He married Marva Kaye Cook on April 22, 1980, in Craig, Colorado. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He loved to play and listen to country music. He wrote a song and sold it to Ernest Tubbs called "My Baby's Book". He enjoyed emailing his family in his later years.
He worked in many professions such as working with glass for Corning, on dairy farms,and in oil fields. He was a Sheriff's Deputy in Park Co. Wyoming from 1964-66 and was the Animal Control Officer in Preston for seven years. He served as the Executive Secretary in a bishopric in Mississippi and was also in charge of parking cars in Palmyra, New York for the Hill Cumorah Pageant.
He is survived by the love of his life, Marva of Preston; daughters, Sharlabeth Bailey of Rochester, New York; Jenni Hall of Pocatello, Idaho; step children, James Eldredge of Mt. View, Wyoming; Craig Eldredge of Weston, Idaho; Rhonda Eldredge of Logan, Utah; Karen Olinger of Hugoton, Kansas; Katie Golightly of Preston; Mary Eldredge of St. Anthony, Idaho; Catherine Curtis of Westcliffe, Colorado; and by forty grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and by a son, Stephen Ross Hall. The family would like to thank Dr. David Beckstead and the FCMC staff for the years of care they have provided.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 28, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. in the Preston Third Ward Chapel, 155 N. 2nd W. Preston, with Bishop Leonard Ward conducting. Friends may call Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new facility, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, and Friday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the church.
