Preston, Idaho - - - Ane Ora H. Nielson
Preston - Ane Ora Hansen Nielseon, 82, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2009 in Preston at the Franklin County Medical Center. She was born October 2, 1926 in Mink Creek, Idaho to Niels Wilford and Tora Virgia Wilde Hansen. Annie was always a precocious child, dynamic and inquisitive possessing an independent spirit. She was educated in Glencoe and Mink Creek Elementary, and Preston High School. Years later, after her marriage, she attended the University of Houston studying English Composition and Political Science. She would have made a great attorney, arguing anything to a standstill.
When she was 18 she went to work for J.C. Penney Company. It was there that she met her most obnoxious customer who asked her to have dinner with him. She felt sorry for a returned serviceman, and was starved so she accepted. The rest is history. She married Homer Leon Nielson on January 31, 1946, and the marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Annie followed Homer for 30 years while he served in the United States Air Force. While doing so she always made a clean, neat, and peaceful home for her family.
Foremost in her life is her Lord and Savior, followed by her devotion to her husband, her daughter, and her son-in-law, her grandchildren, and her devotion to her country. She has strong community spirit and a deep sense of right and wrong. Her devotion to her community led Annie to be elected as the first woman on the Preston City Council. She has often stood alone on a principle she knows is right and has always been a fighter, not a quitter.
Annie served a Stake Mission in Mississippi and she and her husband served a foreign mission to Apia, Samoa where she was an Executive Secretary to the mission president. They also served within the walls of the Idaho Falls Temple as ordinance workers. Her church service has been wide and varied to include all auxiliaries of the church. She has always magnified her callings. She always has enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, and writing. Having published one book, there are many manuscripts that are yet to be published. There are many works of fine poetry that she has created for family and friends and for entertainment purposes. Her spontaneous sense of humor and acting abilities has always been cherished by her family.
She is survived by her husband Homer, of Preston; a daughter Christie Ane (Daniel) Buchin, of Blackfoot, ID; 14 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, a brother John C. (Janeal) Hansen, and a sister Virga Vinora Dursteller. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, MarDene Sparrow, and Adrie LaRue Mecham, and one brother Wilford Hugh Hansen.
