Amarylis Burton Haslam

DAYTON, IDAHO AMARYLIS HASLAM

DAYTON- Amarylis Burton Haslam, 75, passed away on Aug. 1, 2012, at her home in Weston. The rodeo queen and the rodeo cowboy are together again.

She was born May 24, 1937, in Afton, Wyoming, the daughter of Fielding and Laura Hinck Burton. She spent her youth growing up learning to work hard on the family farm. She had fond memories of the summers she worked at Jenny's Lake Cabins and Dude Ranch in Jackson Hole. She graduated from high school and Utah State University with a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education.

She loved horses and was the Queen of the Logan Rodeo in 1957, where she met her husband of 52 years, LaDell Haslam. They were married on March 1, 1958 in Afton, Wyoming. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. She worked side by side with her husband at all the rodeos and on the ranch. She was the first President of the Utah Girls Barrel Racing Association.

She was a High School Teacher in Richfield Idaho, where she taught a type class, and physical education before life got to busy.
She loved working/running the Cross Triangle Rodeo Company. This was a big part of her life. She DID love horses. She was a great seamstress and she made the fanciest satin rodeo shirts, flags and chaps along with her leatherwork. Later in life, she took great pride in the dozens and dozens of quilts she made. She also spent countless hours working on humanitarian quilts. She really enjoyed spending time with her grandkids. She never missed a family outing, horse show, or rodeo they were entered in. She had a great sense of humor! She didn't want to be called Grandma... so everyone called her Granny. She loved and cared for her little Sporty dog and her precious cats. She was an active member of the LDS Church.

She is survived by her daughter, Laurie (Rodney) Archibald of Wellsville, Utah; her son, Randy (Catherine) Haslam of Weston, Idaho; grandkids, Casey Archibald of Trenton, Utah; Dixon (Christina) Haslam of LaBarge, Wyoming; Jamie (Shannon) Olsen of Paradise, Utah; Dixie (Drew) Bassett of Weston, Idaho; Amanda Haslam of Weston, Idaho; by two great-grandkids, Carter Dee Bassett of Weston, Idaho and Jordan Haslam of LaBarge, Wyoming; by siblings, Jeanene (Levonne) Preston of Weiser, Idaho; Lonell (Naomi) Burton of Ogden, Utah; Shaire (Kenny) Call of Afton, Wyoming; Radawn Ruud of Afton, Wyoming; Kim Burton of Afton, Wyoming; Jamie (Angela) Burton of Afton, Wyoming; Betty (Bruce) Davis of Afton, Wyoming; and Vance Burton of Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and by two great-grandkids, Gaige and Ethan Haslam. The family would like to express their thanks to all the friends and neighbors that have helped her out over the years.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 7, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Dayton LDS Church with Bishop Wesley Beutler conducting. Friends may call Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho, and Tuesday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Dayton Cemetery.
