CLIFTON, IDAHO ALVORD COX
CLIFTON- Alvord Levi Cox (Slim) passed away March 19, 2011, at his home in Clifton where he and his wife have resided since 1962. He was born November 19, 1914 in Lovel l, Wyoming, to Orlan L Cox and Ada Emmeline Asay. After serving an LDS mission and serving in the Army during World War II, he married LaVene Gilgen in the Logan LDS Temple on July 17, 1946. They recently celebrated their 64th anniversary.
In 1949 Alvord graduated from the Utah Agriculture College in Logan (USU) and received his Masters degree in education 10 years later. He taught school in Benjamin, Utah at the Intermountain Indian School in Brigham City, Utah and in Franklin, Weston and Clifton Idaho. He retired in 1980.
Alvord was a faithful and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he has served in many callings. He loved missionary work and served as a seventy for many years. He was a faithful home teacher until his health failed and he was unable to continue his service. He was a faithful temple extraction worker for 20 years. He served 3 missions. The Western States Mission as a young man and two missions with his wife. They served in the Holbrook Arizona mission in 1982-83 and at the Salt Lake City Family History Center in 1992-93.
Alvord is survived by his wife, LaVene and 7 children, Marianna Fitzgerald, David Cox (Becky), Linda Zollinger (Matt), Leonard Cox (Heidi), Dennis Cox, Douglas Cox, and Steven Cox (Denise), a son-in-law, Clair Davis (Carolyn) 45 grandchildren, and 66 great-grandchildren.
Alvord was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers and 1 sister: Burl, Orlan, Brig, Pete, Gay and Walt, a daughter, Ada Emmeline Davis and 1 great- granddaughter, Zoey B. Zollinger.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. in the Clifton First Ward Chapel with Bishop Lauritz Smith conducting. Friends may call Friday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home's new location, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho, and Saturday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church.
