We are saddened to announce the passing of our dear father, Alan Dee Hampton on Tuesday, March 4, 2025, in Preston, Idaho. His parents, Alma Biggs Hampton and Maxine Seamons waited 8 years for Dad, who was born on July 17,1937 in Logan, Utah. The family waited another 8 years before his baby sister Dorene was born.
Dad was four and a half when Pearl Harbor was bombed, and the US entered the war against Japan. Those were tough times. Grandpa hunted deer, elk and fowl and like most others, they kept a garden and chickens to keep the family fed. By age ten, Dad landed a job delivering newspapers. He rode his bike during good weather and he and his horse, Babe, made the route, serving between 70 and 110 customers for the next 5 years. He was able to buy his first hunting rifle and continued to earn the means to bankroll his favorite activities, hunting and fishing! The mountains were his happy place.
Dad attended grade school in Franklin and graduated from Preston High School in May of 1955. He took a job with McCune Motor in the body shop and a year later worked in road construction. In the fall of 1957, he was offered the opportunity to serve a mission. He left for the Northern California Mission in December and embarked on a time of challenge and change that would shape the rest of his life. His love for and knowledge of the Savior grew immensely. He later served in many church callings; as a Gospel Doctrine teacher, Ward Clerk for 3 Bishops, and a Seventy in the Franklin Stake.
Upon his return, Dad dated and married the mother of his children, Tamra Hawkes. Returning early in their marriage to Franklin, they were blessed with 8 additions to their family. They both said that they had managed to get at least one of every hair color! They faced the heartbreaking loss of their two little girls, Gina Marie and Amy, to heart related dysfunction. The babies were 18 months apart, the midpoint in the family. Our brother Eliot also left us early at the age of 48 in December of 2015. Mom and Dad were tested and tried severely. Their example of faith continues to guide and inspire us.
Dad’s professional career was largely as an agent for The Prudential Insurance Company. He provided his customers with excellent care and attention as he helped them plan and provide for their families financially. He passionately believed that advance planning was an essential part of providing the security every family needs.
After a disappointing end to his first marriage, Dad dated and married Fae Harris of Fairview. Fae was and is an example to us of acceptance, love and service. She cared for Dad after a fall that left him in the hospital for over a month, the loss of Grandma Maxine and Eliot and several disappointments that aged him tremendously. We appreciate so much the patience and care she gave to Dad and all of us.
Sadly, Dad and Fae parted and Dad took up residence at the Heritage Home in Preston Idaho. He was given exceptional care by wonderful people. We love and appreciate so much the service they rendered which allowed all of us to take care of the day-to-day needs of our families. We thank Symbii Hospice, especially Cara and Thelma. They were awesome!
Dad is survived by his sister Dorene Jenson of Millville, Utah. His children, Alice King (Darrell) of Fairview, Idaho, Eric Hampton (Wendy) of Honeyville, Utah, Aaron Hampton (Mindy) of Richmond, Utah, Kamaron Hampton (Angie) of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, and Jennifer Poulton (Jeff) of Tremonton, Utah. 20 Grandchildren and 32 Great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 7, 2025, at noon in the Franklin Stake Center, 106 E. Main, Franklin, Idaho. A viewing will be held Friday from 10-11:30 a.m. at the stake center.
