Afton Evans

Afton Smith Evans, 95, passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017, in Preston, Idaho.  She was the youngest of four children born to Luke Smith and Sarah Ann James on September 2, 1921.

When Afton was 13 years old, her mother passed away.  This gave Afton the opportunity to live with her sister, Thelma, and develop a close bond with her and her family.  Family has always been very important to Afton, and she made sure the family gathered often, from Memorial Day picnics to Easter Sunday cookouts to birthday celebrations and holiday dinners.

Afton was a caretaker, right up to her very last days.  She was concerned for all around her and would often go out of her way to care for those she loved.  She was very generous with whatever resources she had.

Afton married her eternal companion, Morgan David Evans, in the Logan Utah Temple on Sept. 14, 1939.  Morgan’s work with Utah Power took them to many different places and they made many lasting friendships.  They were blessed with two daughters.

She is survived by numerous posterity which includes seven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and twenty great great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, by two daughters, JoAnn E. Henderson and Maurine Rogers Mayhew and by one great-great granddaughter.

The family is extremely grateful and would like to thank Heritage Senior Living, Access Hospice & Home Health and others who cared for Afton in such a loving and gentle way.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at noon at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho.  Friends may call Tuesday from 10:30-11:30 a.m. at the mortuary.  Interment will be in the Preston Cemetery.  Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at www.webbmortuary.com
